PRINCIPAL, ARCHITECT, VICE PRESIDENT OF CREATIVITY

As Principal and Vice President of Creativity at DLA Architects, Steven K. Wright, AIA, champions our mission to create spaces that foster learning and growth. He oversees the Design Department and ensures proper resources are allocated to ensure the design intent is accomplished. Central to Steve’s approach is our fundamental philosophy: “Form Follows Learning.” This guiding principle shapes every project under his direction, transforming our designs into more than mere structures; they become spaces that inspire, engage, and support the learning process. Having been with DLA Architects for over three decades, Steve exemplifies the firm’s dedication to crafting innovative spaces that cater to learners everywhere, making this vision a reality with each project he undertakes.

A recognized authority in auditorium design, Steve boasts a portfolio that includes many highly specialized performance spaces that are both functional and transformative. His passion for the performing arts, combined with an extensive background in lighting design, allows him to craft environments that enhance the artistic experience. Steve’s expertise was refined through practical experience as he served as a lighting and soundboard assistant for Christian Youth Theater (CYT) productions while his children were growing up. This role not only enhanced his skill set but also contributed to his personal growth and community involvement.

DLA Architects prides itself on being a family of good humans—future-thinking, collaborative, and enthusiastic about our work. Steve stands as a prime example of these virtues, embodying them both professionally and personally.  Today he regularly serves his church in many capacities, from mission trips, to assisting with regular services, to team teaching classes for new members. Any opportunity to serve his church and community are embraced. By fostering environments where learning and community are at the forefront, Steve’s work and volunteerism contribute to building a better, more inclusive future.
