DLA Architects Donates to Community Back to School Programs

Donations of supplies totaling over $1,000 from DLA Architects are helping children in northern Illinois prepare for school.

The firm is donating backpacks to Project Backpack – a community-based initiative led by Elgin Community College to benefit students in need. The effort is sponsored by Elgin Community College (Student Life, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Student Government), the ECC Faculty Association, ECCP3, Community Crisis Center, Kane County Regional Office of Education, Kane County Teachers Credit Union, School Districts 300 and U-46, and United Way of Elgin.

DLA Architects is also sponsoring a class at Coleman Elementary School in School District U-46. Sandy Warren of DLA Architects worked closely with the school’s principal to develop a wish list for a new teacher who will be teaching her first class this year. The assortment of school supplies such as pencils, scissors, glue sticks and spiral notebooks will be delivered later this month.

Every year the firm partners with an organization selected by a committee of employee volunteers to fill a community need. The recipients are selected from a list of the firm’s clients, which happens to include an extensive list of schools, park districts, and non-profits. Priority is given to organizations that benefit children or enhance learning. Last year DLA Architects provided school supplies to a class at Fairmont School in Lockport, Illinois.
