Empowering Future Careers: Harlem High School CTE Addition Wins Award of Merit

At DLA Architects, we believe in designing spaces that inspire and empower the next generation. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that the Harlem High School CTE Addition & Remodeling project has been honored with an Award of Merit at the Exhibition of Educational Environments, held during the IASB • IASA • IASBO Joint Annual Conference.

This 27,000-square-foot addition is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in shaping the future of education. The project modernized and expanded Harlem High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, consolidating off-site instruction into one state-of-the-art facility.

Key Features of the Award-Winning Design:

  • Real-World Work Environments: Spaces for Welding/Metal Fabrication, Automotive, Manufacturing, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, and Child Development.
  • Advanced Technology: Tools for project-based learning and simulations, including an electric-vehicle workshop and forklift training.
  • Flexible, Future-Ready Spaces: Adaptable designs to meet evolving educational needs.
  • Collaborative Areas: A two-story Commons with a learning stair and a crow’s nest conference room for group discussions.
  • Durable, Cost-Effective Materials: Ensuring functionality and longevity.

This project not only equips students with the skills they need to thrive in today’s workforce but also enhances access to education by maximizing instructional time and opening doors to new programs.
