Exhibition of Educational Environments
The 2023 Exhibition of Educational Environments consists of 21 innovative solutions to challenges encountered in both new school construction and renovations. Projects are selected for display and awards through evaluation by a jury of school officials and architects.
The exhibition will be located in the Grand Hall, Ballroom level in the Hyatt Regency East Tower during the regular conference hours:

Learning From Lincoln: Leadership Practices for School Success
DLA’s Sue Bertrand and her colleague Craig Collins with IASBO will explore how Lincoln’s leadership practices and behaviors provide compelling guidance for today’s challenges of accountability, diversity, political conflict, team building, climate, and economic hardship. Leadership qualities linked to leading others and school success will be highlighted. Participants will leave with a repertoire of strategies and insights to apply immediately in their own workplace contexts. We will cover Chapters 1-3 of the book Learning From Lincoln.

Reimagining Teaching and Learning for 21st Century learners
The DLA Architects Washington Elementary School Project Team will join Schiller Park School District Leadership in a thought-provoking discussion on how School District 81 broke the mold of conventional teaching and learning to design a bold 21st Century school that engages learners through child-centered teaching and play-based learning. This session will inspire educators and designers to create learning environments that encourage innovation, collaboration and critical thinking by using light, color, shapes, and space. Members of the District 81 leadership team and DLA Architects, will take participants through the process, beginning with attendance at Harvard University’s Learning Environments for Tomorrow symposium, to the completion of a progressive elementary school, where classrooms are flipped and school is reimagined.

Leading Through Difficult Times
DLA’s Resident Leadership Expert, Sue Bertrand will join a panel discussion on how to use the LIFO orientations theory, attendees will understand the differences between people’s behaviors that can cause different responses in relationships. Discover an understanding of how to bridge to others and diffuse conflict.
