The Legacy of DLA Architects, Ltd.
DLA Architects, Ltd. was originally established as Dahlquist and Lutzow Architects, Ltd. in 1983 by Bruce Dahlquist and Dwain Lutzow. The firm’s values were guided by lessons learned on the Little League baseball fields of Chicago, where the founders learned the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Over the years, this ethos was deeply ingrained into the company culture, fostering a nurturing environment that champions mentorship and collaboration.
Between 2001 and 2007, DLA Architects embarked on a period of growth and strategic planning. New leaders emerged, giving rise to a robust management team that included Eric Sickbert, Steve Wright, Bill Templin, Carrie Matlock, and Lou Noto. When 2008 came around, Dahlquist and Lutzow Architects was rebranded as DLA Architects, Ltd., commemorating 25 years of exceptional service and marking the beginning of another exciting chapter.
In 2017, Carrie Matlock assumed the role of president of DLA Architects. Having been with the firm for over two decades, her leadership has been pivotal in steering the organization’s strategic planning and success. By 2020, our firm’s commitment to nurturing its next generation of leaders saw the development of an associate level of ownership, allowing long-term employees to invest in the company.

With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Robert Juris & Associates has been providing exceptional architectural services since 1992. This partnership will further enhance our ability to deliver comprehensive and high-quality architectural solutions. Their service-oriented culture aligns seamlessly with DLA, as does their expertise spanning various domains, including office, education, recreation, library, medical, retail, industrial, renovation, and residential projects.
A Bright Future Ahead
DLA Architects is set to expand its presence in south suburban Mokena, Illinois with the acquisition of Robert Juris & Associates Architects, Ltd. This strategic move will enable us to better serve our clients and broaden our reach. As part of this transition, Jonathan Murawski, the current sole principal at Robert Juris & Associates, will join DLA Architects as an Associate Principal. Jonathan brings a wealth of experience and a strong connection to our firm, having been a recipient of the DLA Architects [THINK] about Architecture Scholarship in 2001. He joined our team in 2006 and made valuable contributions until 2015 when he transitioned to Robert Juris & Associates. We are thrilled to have Jonathan rejoin our team and continue our shared commitment to excellence in architecture.
