DLA President Carrie Matlock participates in COVID Conversations: When We Go Back

As this strange and challenging school year draws to a close, know that like you, we are looking to the future.

In these last months, we’ve continued our efforts to design safe and sustainable school environments.

Conversations around our now virtual water cooler have included topics like what type of finishes are best for overall health and wellness. Folks have talked about things as varied as flooring selection to furniture. We’ve talked about how to promote health, not just in the classroom, but in restrooms, corridors, and cafeterias. We’ve shared thoughts on how frameworks like the WELL Building Standard™ might help deliver health-promoting strategies through building design.

We’ve also stepped back and thought about what schools might look like when they reopen. DLA Architects president Carrie Matlock will broaden the conversation. She will be part of a panel conversation. Don’t miss it.

COVID Conversations: When We Go Back: Science, Space & Operations

Tuesday, May 26 at 12:00pm

Undoubtedly you have been asked the question, “Given what we know today, what would schools look like if doors should reopen this fall?” It is difficult to answer. Recommendations, scientific knowledge, and timelines are evolving daily but we do need to begin to imagine a school operating within our current reality. Join this panel discussion for insights from an epidemiologist, a school superintendent, an assistant superintendent, a school architect, and a school construction manager revolving around science and the virus, space strategies to meet the CDC recommendations and dealing with the task of making this all come together by the fall. Come prepared to ask questions, share your tentative plans, and learn from others!
