Gallery 2PP

Stop by the DLA Architects office at Two Pierce Place this week and you’ll see the work of some very inspired young artists. The firm is hosting a gallery exhibit for the work of Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) Troop 1484. The Girl Scouts are known around the world for the opportunities they provide girls to enhance their education by getting out into the world and challenging themselves. DLA is happy to be a part of that.

The Juniors will earn their Legacy: Artist Drawing proficiency badge and the Cadettes will earn the Legacy: Artist Comic Artist badge. In one series, the girls created a series of still lifes of the same doll using different media for each piece. In another series, the girls were challenged to develop a cartoon. Their task was to create a character and develop a story around them. They then drew the scenes and added words to make the story come to life. In the final series, the girls explored perspective and shading.

DLA staffer Anita Ames facilitated the project and had this to say:

“They had a lot of fun; they loved being able to use different media and they were inspired to explore the different media.”

Anita is the troop leader for the girls and is a lifelong scout. A Girl Scout Gold Award recipient, she is part of an elite group of women who have been recognized by the organization for inspiring girls to become leaders, and share their ideas and passions with their communities.

“I love the Girl Scouts. It’s inspiring because the girls are free to express themselves, oftentimes with a STEM-type focus. It really gets them out of their comfort zone to try something they might not normally try.”

GSNI is a not-for-profit organization chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA and one of 112 councils nationwide. Through the National Leadership Experience, girls Discover their values and the world around them, Connect with others in their communities, and the world, and Take Action to make the world a better place.

DLA Architects is active in the areas we serve and this is just one of the projects we’re involved with. Throughout the year, our partners and employees dedicate their time and energy to make a positive impact in our community.
