Long-Time Architect Carrie Matlock Named President

A few weeks ago you helped me celebrate my partner Bruce’s retirement. It was bittersweet to see him go, but I’m also proud of all the groundwork we laid to make it possible.

It was back in the 1990’s that we started a leadership transition plan; it was long term and forward thinking.

The foundation of our plan was to guide our team members in career development.

When Carrie started with the firm over twenty years ago, it didn’t take long for me and Bruce to see her potential. As one of her mentors, I helped her navigate her professional journey, passing along my own knowledge along the way. In 2007 when she became the first woman partner of the firm, she had grown into an experienced and capable architect and leader.

Recently my partners and I voted Carrie into the position of president of the firm. She not only exemplifies the idea of a lifelong learner, she takes the DLA philosophy of Form Follows Learning to heart. She’s a great listener and is adept at guiding both our clients and our employees from that detail focus that’s so important to the big picture goal and back. I think her understanding of how the smallest of elements add up to the whole will serve her well in her new role. I know her ability to convey a vision will be an asset to DLA.

I hope you share my excitement and will join me in welcoming our new president Carrie Matlock.

Cheers,

Dwain Lutzow, AIA
