Community Connections: Kids Against Hunger

The Rotary community volunteers packed 4,752 meals, enough to feed one child 3 meals a day for over 4 years!

This week as part of a joint effort of the Bloomingdale-Roselle Rotary Club, the Carol Stream Rotary Club and the Lombard Rotary Club, I had the privilege of packing meals for undernourished children in Nicaragua. This was a part of a continuous program sponsored by Kids against Hunger, a not for profit group with a facility in Roselle. Through the efforts of the other volunteers and I, we packed 4,752 meal packs, enough to feed one child 3 meals a day for over 4 years!

The Rotary motto is “Service above Self.” This was certainly the commitment that we made in dedicating our time to this worthwhile cause. If anyone is interested, Kids against Hunger is always willing to accept volunteers.

It is a satisfying experience knowing that the small effort that I made will have a significant impact on a child thousands of miles away “who will never know my name, but know that there is someone in the world who cares about me!”
