Enhancing Daycare and Afterschool Programs

The National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA) recently shared information about the Afterschool Alliance. The site has some interesting reports and studies, such as how Afterschool Programs can support STEM learning or Common Core or how Afterschool Programs can develop partnerships with higher ed institutions. Some interesting Facts & Research from the Afterschool site:

In Illinois, 20% (433,390) of K-12 youth are responsible for taking care of themselves after school.

Of all Illinois children not currently enrolled in afterschool, 41% (741,400) would be likely to participate IF an afterschool program were available in their community.

80% of parents in Illinois are satisfied with the afterschool program their child attends.

18% (741,400) of Illinois’s K-12 children participate in afterschool programs, including 52,084 kids in programs supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative, the only federal program dedicated to afterschool.
