A Bright Future at ECC

Last night, Peggy and I had the privilege of dining with Ms. Angel Barker, the DLA Architects THINK [about architecture] Scholarship recipient, and her husband Walter at the Elgin Community College Foundation 2013-2014 Scholarship Awards Reception. She is a very talented student whose goal is to earn an Associate’s Degree, then to transfer to a four year college in pursuit of a Manufacturing Bachelor’s Degree. Angel brought along her portfolio to show us, and show us she did! She displays amazing skills in Computer Aided Manufacturing!

Angel is a motivated woman who says that “education is very important to me and I hope that I can continue to achieve my goals. I believe that education gives us knowledge, knowledge is giving us power, and power gives us independence.”

It is impressive to see the talent and commitment being nurtured in our schools, in this case Elgin Community College.

It is certainly gratifying being on the ECC Foundation Board, as well representing DLA, in the offering of a scholarship. I feel that we, collectively, are making a positive contribution to the success of these student recipients. Angel was very sincere in thanking DLA for the scholarship and the opportunity to continue her education.
