Earlier this week, DLA Architects welcomed a small group of friends at our office to celebrate a green milestone for the firm.
Doug Widener of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) presented a LEED Certified plaque to DLA; this recognition was for the design of our new corporate offices in Itasca.
DLA Partner Lou Noto, who led the build-out project said:
“We chose to design a high quality, LEED Certified workspace in order to publically show our corporate commitment as stewards of the environment. However, and most importantly, we have set an example in the design of sustainable office which makes good business sense in terms of energy savings and the bottom line.”
Green Office Design Features:
Features integrated into the design conserve energy, respect the environment and create a healthy indoor environment for living and working. Our Design Team specified:
- High efficiency light fixtures with motion sensors to save energy.
- Recycled products to reduce consumption of virgin materials.
- Regionally produced materials to minimize the carbon footprint of the project and contribute to the economic sustainability of the area.
- Rapidly renewable materials, like bamboo, to reduce the environmental impact of the project.
- Finishes having low or no VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) to limit the effect of the construction on the health of contractors and our employees after occupancy.
- Large windows and an open plan to maximize daylighting, which reduces the need for artificial lighting and energy consumption throughout the office. An added benefit is the dramatic views.
- and commissioning the building prior to occupancy.
